In his 22+ years as an attorney, Usher has not only counseled businesses of all types and sizes but has also launched and run successful companies as well. Usher began his legal career as a commercial litigator with the New York firm Thacher Proffitt & Wood, where he worked on arbitrations, civil trials, and appeals in state and federal courts -- handling a wide variety of matters, with a particular focus on the type of complex contract, employment, and securities issues encountered by large financial institutions.

After Thacher, Usher joined Razor and Tie Entertainment as a principal when the company was a small start-up. Serving as executive vice president and general counsel, Usher helped build Razor and Tie into a thriving multi-faceted media company that includes one of the nation's most successful direct marketers of entertainment products and a record label with multiple Gold and Platinum releases.

Usher left Razor and Tie to serve as Chief Operating Officer of DCN, then a groundbreaking start-up that pioneered using digital and Internet technologies to record and webcast live concert performances. Under his leadership, DCN built the world’s largest catalog of live music recordings, produced the largest online music event in history, released dozens of critically and commercially successful CDs and raised millions in venture capital financing. That success ultimately led to the sale of the company to Dimensional Associates (in conjunction with its purchase of DreamWorks Publishing, eMusic, and The Orchard).

Usher has also served as CEO of Odin Media, LLC, which produces technology-enabled marketing solutions for a variety of businesses including some of the country's most active marketers (e.g., Comcast and Cablevision). In addition, he is the founder and president of WhiteCap Group, LLC, a consulting group that works with growing companies in the media industry.

Usher is a frequent speaker at media-industry events on the impact of new technologies on the media and entertainment businesses and a regular guest lecturer at colleges and business schools, including NYU's Stern School of Business. Usher serves as a court appointed mediator in the Eastern District of New York and has served on the Washington & Lee University Alumni Board of Directors. He graduated with honors from Washington & Lee University and NYU Law School.
